A welcome letter from Mark Kingston, our Lead Pastor
Hello - I’m Mark Kingston, the Lead Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church.
I’m delighted you’ve found your way to our community here in Gibsons, BC. Whether you’re a long-time follower of Jesus or simply curious about faith, you’re in the right place.
Everyone is welcome
Let’s be honest for a moment. Life can be challenging, can’t it? Health struggles, tricky relationships, worries about the future? If you’re struggling, then know you are not alone. But here’s the thing: we’re not content to just accept that as the norm. We’re excited about something far greater.
On earth as it is in heaven…
Jesus once said, “Get ready – because my Kingdom is near!” That’s not just a phrase from the past; it’s an invitation to a whole new way of living. We’re talking about a reality where brokenness can be mended and where peace is not just a distant dream but something you can truly experience.
At Calvary, we’re all about embarking on this adventure together. We love exploring the Bible – not as a dusty old book, but as a vibrant story that helps us understand who God is, who we are, and how to navigate this complex world.
And speaking of stories, your story matters too. Whether you’ve got everything sorted or you’re still figuring things out, you’re welcome here.
Bring your appetite!
Oh, and did I mention we’re rather fond of good food? Eating together is one of the best ways to connect, celebrate, and experience God’s generosity. Our community garden is a lovely little spot too – it’s like a slice of Eden right here in Gibsons.
So here’s the invitation: Come as you are. Bring your questions, your doubts, your hopes and your appetite. Let’s explore this Kingdom life together. Who knows? You might just find what you’ve been searching for all along…
Mark Kingston
Lead Pastor
What can I expect on a Sunday?
At Calvary Baptist, you can expect a warm and welcoming atmosphere where everyone is invited to come as they are.
Our Sunday gatherings are filled with heartfelt singing - that’s one way we worship God. We pray for one another, for our community and for the world. We listen to teachings from the Bible too. We believe the Bible is not just a dusty book, but a vibrant story that helps us understand who God is, who we are, and how to navigate the complexities of life.
We offer a Sunday School for Kids up to Grade 7. We also love to eat together, so keep an eye out - a breakfast, picnic, BBQ, lunch, afternoon tea might be just around the corner!
There’s no need to dress up or worry about fitting in; we come from a variety of backgrounds and are at different stages of our faith journeys. So, whether you’re curious about Jesus or have been following Him for years, you’re welcome here.
